Hockey Game Invaded by 25,000 Teddy Bears

What are the chances of 25,000 people at an ice hockey game all having a teddy bear with them?

Pretty slim, we think you’d agree. Unless it’s a junior Canadian ice hockey game – in which case, it turns out, it’s a tradition.

“The idea is to collect thousands of bears to be distributed to kids in need,” reports BuzzBishop. “It’s a great event that packs the house each year.”

Why Gary Pratt wont forget Ricky Ponting | Cricket

In cricket, substitute fielders are supposed to be used to provide cover for injured players. England’s use of substitute fielders in the 2005 Ashes series proved to be controversial, with the Australian team claiming England were using substitutes to rest their bowlers between spells, and were picking specialist fielders for the job.

“It was just a normal, everyday thing you do – pick a ball up and throw it.” Gary Pratt

Its Not Just The UK that has issues with Football | Tank Carder | Twitter

According to the Huffington PostAn NFL linebacker is feeling the heat in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) blogosphere after a series of controversial tweets which some have deemed anti-gay.

As Outsports’ Cyd Zeigler Jr. first reported, Tank Carder of the Cleveland Browns got into a heated exchange on Twitter before labeling one user a “faggot.”

Though that original tweet has since been deleted, Carder — who was selected in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills and signed with the Browns in September — faced a barrage of criticism from other users, after which he responded:

@craigcraiglife I don’t agree with being gay or lesbian at all, but saying faggot doesn’t make me a homophobe, it’s just a word

@DJive19 faggot is actually a bundle of twigs….there’s your research

he Cleveland Browns quickly distanced themselves from Carder’s remarks in a brief statement. “These comments are certainly not reflective of the Cleveland Browns organization, nor do we condone them in any fashion,” Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis is quoted by CBS as saying. “We have spoken with Tank and have made this very clear to him.”

Outsports is calling on the NFL to suspend Carder for a game for using the slur. Meanwhile, Carder has since apologized for his remarks on Twitter:

Tank Carder

I was not bashing the gay community in any way…if you knew me you would know I wouldn’t do that. Again I’m sorry if you were offended

I want to sincerely apologize for the word I used! I did not in anyway mean to offend anyone! That tweet doesn’t define me as a person!

Rafa Benitez The Craziest week in Football | Premier League | Chelsea

Fans protest over the signing of new manager Rafael Benitez, Chelsea v Manchester City, Barclays Premier League.

Rafael Benitez insisted he could not hear Chelsea fans booing after enduring a hostile reception at Stamford Bridge.

“I can guarantee because I was focused on the game I did not listen to the crowd,” Benitez told Sky Sports. “I don’t know if they said something or not. For me the main thing was team and their performance on the pitch.

“I was not listening; I was just concentrating on the game. You could see my body language in the dugout I was just trying to give instructions to my players.”

Asked what Benitez could do to win over the Chelsea fans, City boss Roberto Mancini said: “Win, win, win, win, win, win, win, win every game – only the results can help.”

Benitez responded: “It’s not a secret. It’s true.”

The Spaniard has signed a short-term deal having rejected Blues owner Roman Abramovich’s offer to take caretaker charge of the club in March after André Villas-Boas was dismissed.

Chelsea hailed Benítez as a coach “with significant experience at the highest level of football, who can come in and immediately help deliver our objectives”.

Dynamo Goalkeeper Suffers Firecracker Injury | Female Fan

Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Anton Shunin was hospitalized with burns to his cornea after an explosive device was allegedly thrown onto the field by a fan of Zenit St. Petersburg. The Press Association notes that Shunin reported problems with both his vision and hearing after the device exploded in his face.

According to news outlet RT, police are searching for a female Zenit fan who allegedly hid the firecrackers in her body and smuggled them into the stadium. In addition to video showing a woman throwing the device, an unnamed law enforcement official said that dozens of condoms were found in the ladies’ room and are often used to stow flares inside the vagina or anus.

While Dynamo notes the violence was carried out by a fan of its opponent, Zenit points out Dynamo’s responsibility as the home team for both selling tickets and screening fans entering the stadium.

“At the moment there is no evidence that the violation was committed by Zenit fans,” Zenit’s statement reads. “The away team, which under the rules is not responsible for the safety of fans and participants of the match, cannot be sanctioned for it.”
