The name and design of the Official Match Ball for the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 was unveiled on Saturday at the Draw in Sao Paulo. This is only the second time that a specifically-designed ball has been launched for the so-called ‘Festival of Champions’.

The Cafusa name combines three symbols which are at the core of Brazilian culture – carnival, football and samba. Together with the vibrant colour scheme, the ball is a true reflection of the Brazilian national identity, with a particular focus on the southern cross constellation represented in the Brazilian flag.

“Unveiling the Official Ball of the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 is a big moment for us” said Rodrigo Messias, Director of the Project 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. “Brazilians are passionate about football and we wanted to deliver an inspirational ball for this competition. We are very pleased with the adidas Cafusa, the final product has strong Brazilian elements in place throughout the design.”

To showcase the new football to all Brazilians there will be an exhibition of ten giant balls, each two metres in diameter, which will travel across the country until the end of June 2013. The balls will begin their journey in Rio de Janeiro before heading on to the other Host Cities of the FIFA Confederations Cup 2013 – Recife, Fortaleza, Salvador, Brasilia and Belo Horizonte.

The adidas Cafusa will make its on pitch debut at the FIFA Club World Cup Japan 2012, which takes place between 6 and 16 December.

Lady GAGA Goes Brazilian | Rio de Janeiro

Lady GaGa took time out from rehearsing for her current world tour to play football with local children in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro.

Gaga waved to adoring fans from her balcony wearing a Brazil shirt before descending for a kick-about with local kids.

Gaga hadn’t just popped in at random: She was there to get a closer look at the social development project underway in the area, the work of Brazil’s Globo Television and the U.N. Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Gaga called the experience the “best day [she] ever had,” tweeting, “i’ll never forget Rio, you lit my heart into flames.”

Rio de Janeiro In Bid For Formula 1 Race

Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes is reportedly preparing a bold proposal to bring Formula One to the Brazilian city.

Paes is seeking talks with F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone about the prospect of making Rio Brazil’s second venue on the championship calendar after the Interlagos track in Sao Paulo, reports Xinhua.

It is understood Paes is hesitant to enter in a direct dispute with Sao Paulo for the event, but will do so if Ecclestone rules out the prospect of staging two Grand Prix races in the country.

Speaking at an announcement for Rio’s new international speedway Friday, Paes said: “Be prepared Sao Paulo because I am going to steal the Formula 1 from you.”

Interlagos, which is contracted to host an annual F1 race until 2015, was Brazil’s first Grand Prix home in the 1970s before losing its host status to Rio de Janeiro’s Jacarepagua circuit in 1981.

The event returned to Interlagos in 1990 and has remained there since.
