La Liga’s Loss is the Premier League’s Gain

La Liga’s latest footballing spectacle didn’t fail to deliver on Sunday evening with the two best players in the world taking to the stage in these much anticipated encounters for the battle of the Spanish title. The depth of talent on show in any one game is not comparable to any other league in the world  and around 130,000 fans cram into the in the Camp Nou  and provide a theatre of football for the likes of Messi and Ronaldo to demonstrate their incredible skill and talent.

Just like British football Spain suffers financially, back in April a report by Bloomberg highlighted the problem facing Spanish football ” the Spanish League, which generates about €600 million in annual TV revenue, trails the English league in overall income, its superstars are the world’s highest-paid players. France Football magazine estimates that Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is soccer’s No. 1 earner with an annual income of €33 million, including base salary, bonuses, and endorsement deals. Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is No. 3 with €29 million, the publication says.

Players who have left the country in the past two years include Spanish national-team players David Silva and Juan Mata, who left Valencia for Manchester City and Chelsea, respectively. Valencia’s banks had stopped lending it money, and at one point it was late with salary payments to players.

The August 2012 transfer window saw more players arriving from the Spanish La Liga and in what some fans may consider a negative impact on the development of our own youth players, in actual fact the presence of what in transfer terms are rich pickings the Spanish influx is starting to excite the fans with some entertaining displays throughout the Premier league. So Lets take a look at what is now La Liga’s loss and the Premier Leagues gain.

Santi Cazorla ; a £16.5m signing move for Arsenal in the summer is no doubt going to be a arsenal legend and the decision to sell Van Persie may not have such a negative impact as first feared by some fans.

Cazorla is noted for his speed and capacity to change the rhythm of gameplay, and spent most of his professional career with Villarreal, amassing La Liga totals of 253 games and 39 goals over the course of nine seasons. Cazorla already has two goals this season was a target for Real Madrid in the summer and Jose Mourinho was left dissapointed to have missed out on the spanish star.

David Silva ; On 30 June 2010, Manchester City announced that they had reached an agreement with Valencia over the transfer of Silva and that he would join the club on a four-year deal, prior to the start of the 2010–11 season for around £30m.

On 17 September, Silva signed a new five year deal at City, committing himself to the Etihad Stadium until 2017. Silva headed home a 14th minute goal in the 2012 Euro Final and went on to lift the trophy in Kiev.

Silva also went on to celebrate two other goals by players lighting up the premier league Chelsea’s Fernando Torres and Juan Mata. Torres came to the Premier League in 2007 scoring 65 goals in 102 appearances. Before the £50m move to Chelsea. Team mate Juan Mata  known for his creativity, acceleration, speed, versatility, and technical ability and is described as a “creative spark”. He has also been described as “a touch of flair” and has earned critical acclaim for his playing style.

On 28 July 2011, Manchester City confirmed that Agüero had signed a five-year contract with the club. The fee was reported to be in the region of £38 million (€45 million, $60 million). He was given the number 16 shirt for his first season at City. Aguero became a instant star at City and will be very much remembered for clinching the win and the title for Manchester City with a crucial goal in the final minutes against QPR.

This Summers transfer window saw Swansea add more Spanish players but in what would be considered bargain basement deals. The financial crisis has bitten Spanish clubs hard and Swansea made the most of it with 3 players costing less than £10m. Chico Flores , Pablo Hernandez and free scoring midfielder Michu all arrived in Wales to add some Spanish flair to the premier league side. Michu already a fans favourite has 6 goals in 8 games in all competitions so far this season.

Real Madrids Granero arrived at QPR for £9m on a four year deal and Nuri Sahin also left Real Madrid to join Liverpool on a season long loan.

The Premier league has made the very best of the Spanish financial crisis and with the January transfer window looming and clubs still struggling im sure that we will see more exciting players coming to our shores.

Is Nuri Sahin Playing In The Shop Window ?

Its been Liverpool’s younger players that have been grabbing all the headlines in recent weeks and rightly so. Brendan has added his own youth to a squad already filled with exciting players. Suso, Sinclair, Shelvey, Stirling, & Wisdom are all getting an extended run in the side and showing the Reds Boss Rodgers exactly how committed to the cause they are.

Brendan Rodgers invested in three of his own players during the summer by bringing in exciting left midfielder Oussama Assaidi, German Striker Samed Yesil and the Classy Midfielder Nuri Sahin on loan from Real Madrid.

The loan move for Nuri Sahin did however create much speculation throughout August with rumours about wages and loan fees & interest from Arsenal. The move was eventually helped by two key relationships  Brendan Rodgers & Jose Mourinho and Kop Favourite Xabi Alonso.

Alonso would have no doubt spoke of his own experiences of the Kop and the atmosphere at Anfield along with the fans loyalty to players that show commitment and ability, players that ” put in a shift “. Whether there was any truth in the Arsenal interest  this might be tested once again next summer or possibly in the January transfer window.

With Nuri showing his quality and really settling into the technical passing game employed by Rodgers speculation is already mounting about the players long-term future. Sahin cost Real £8m which puts the £15m paid for Joe Allen into perspective. In recent days reports have surfaced that perhaps Liverpool don’t have the funds should they wish to make the move a permanent one. A deal in which I think Liverpool need to secure for two important reasons.

  1. The lack of a real versatile quality midfielder to replace Gerrard a role that i believe Nuri can almost certainly grow into.
  2. Nuri Sahin would not want to return to Real Madrid without the Re-assurance of regular first team football.

Rodgers gave a cautious reply to the media when asked about the players long-term plans and possibility of making the loan a permanent deal. “I don’t look beyond the loan period because there are lots of things which will determine whether he ever came here (permanently),” said the Reds boss.

With all the transfer rumours likely to intensify to the end of January it could be the long-term future of Nuri that goes under the radar unless Liverpool can find the funds to reassure the player that he is welcome to stay at Anfield. Agents and clubs alike will be on red alert to take the player. I’m sure there’s much more to come from Nuri but how ironic it would be if Liverpool were to lose him to another Premier league club.

Nuri would be a ready-made player and more likely a important first team player by the end of the season, but and its a huge but he will want to play games and im not sure that would mean him returning to Spain where he only managed 10 appearances last season due to injury.

Nuri’s talent was developed with success in Germany in which his record was without question. Apps 152 –  Goals 17 – 36 Assists.

Şahin won the Bundesliga title with Dortmund in the 2010–11 season. After a strong season, in which he scored seven goals and made eight assists, Şahin was voted best player of the season in the Bundesliga for 2011. A return to Germany also remains a big possibility if Liverpool cant find the Cash.

So Who is the 16-year-old Croatian wonderkid ?

Alen Halilović who is 17 on the 8th February is the Son of the former Bosnian professional footballer Sejad Halilović. Sejad  who played for several clubs in Europe, including NK Zagreb, Real Valladolid, Altay S.K.,and Hapoel Be’er Sheva F.C. as well as the Croatia national football team and Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team.

ImageAlen is a Left sided attacking midfielder & Known as the ” Mini Modric “. The 16-year-old has now become involved with Dinamo Zagreb’s first team and his performances have now alerted the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid. Halilovic signed a new contract with his parent club a few months back and it is unlikely that he will be allowed to leave for a big league at such a tender age. Although Dinamo coach Ante Cacic is convinced of the innate qualities of the player, he says that the youngster needs to be looked after as he is too young to be thrust with comparisons and all those things that follow the lives of talented young players.

Some observers believe that there is too much pressure already on the young player However, Cacic has tried his best to dispel these doubts about the protégée.

“Alen is something. He hits the ball differently and it will be interesting to follow his development. Given his talent and potential, the impression is that he has no limits.”

Zidane ” No longer here ” Mourinho tells sleeping Journalists”

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Zinedine Zidane has left the club to pursue his coaching qualifications.

In recent weeks there has been some confusion as to the relationship between the two. Zidane spoke to the press on Friday whilst at the Ramon Moreno Grosso memorial and confirmed ” It’s all good. I’m happy at Real Madrid. I’m helping to win titles and working with the youth team, with the youngsters. I have all the time left to do things …” Zidane said to the press.

In response to the speculation Mourinho told the press “You have been sleeping for two months. It’s been months since he said goodbye, in inverted commas, to his role in the first team. He’s been in the changing rooms”.
