“It’s been one of the most competitive seasons for Formula One drivers,” Vettel said following the sale. “I’m really proud to have won the Championship with the team and it’s great that these suits have raised so much money for such a fantastic charity.”

Wings for Life is the charity partner of Red Bull Racing and their logo features on both of the Red Bull Racing cars.

HRT Missing from 2013 Entry List | F1 | FIA

LONDON, Dec 1 (Reuters) – Formula One looks likely to be reduced to 11 teams next season after the official 2013 championship entry list was published without struggling Spanish-based HRT on it.

The 22-car list was published on the governing International Automobile Federation’s (FIA) website ( on Saturday after the expiry of a Friday deadline for teams to pay their entry fees.

Under the 2013 sporting regulations, Madrid-based HRT were required to pay entry fees of $500,000.

The owners of HRT, who have not scored a point in their three year existence, announced last month that the team was up for sale and talks were underway with various groups interested in buying them.

FIA sources indicated that HRT could yet be added to the list if they paid up and Spain’s AS newspaper reported that HRT had been allowed more time to try and find a buyer.

The team was founded by Spanish ex-Formula One driver Adrian Campos in 2010, when three new teams were invited to enter the championship, as Campos Meta but the outfit hit immediate financial trouble.

It was renamed Hispania in a rescue operation led by Murcia-based businessman Jose Ramon Carabante and Colin Kolles, a former principal of what is now the Force India team, before being taken over by Thesan Capital in July last year.

Spanish veteran Pedro De la Rosa and Indian Narain Karthikeyan were the two drivers this year, with the Cosworth-powered team finishing 12th and last overall after beating Marussia in the two previous seasons.

There has been considerable scepticism within the sport about the prospect of any buyer emerging.

“I hope they find a buyer, an investor, and I hope they don’t shut. But clearly there’s a good possibility that they might,” McLaren principal Martin Whitmarsh had told reporters in Brazil last weekend.

“I think we’ve got to recognise that after probably the four top teams, all the teams have got really big challenges and costs are escalating.”

Japan’s Super Aguri were the last Formula One team to fold, during the 2008 season due to financial problems.

Only five of the teams named their full driver lineup, including Williams who announced only this week that Finland’s Valtteri Bottas would be racing for them next year in place of Brazilian Bruno Senna.

Sauber and Toro Rosso, who have both finalised their lineups, did not name any drivers. ($1 = 0.7689 euros) (Reporting by Alan Baldwin, editing by Ken Ferris)

Brazil 2012 | F1 The end of an era

Ex-BMW Sauber team principal Mario Theissen gave Vettel his big break in the 2007 United States Grand Prix.”He certainly has a chance,” Theissen told BBC Sport. “Anything can happen.”He is one of the very few big names. If everything goes well, Sebastian has got another 10 years ahead of him.”

“He was quite different to the other boys,” recalled Theissen. “When he arrived, it became immediately clear that he was very talented but also much more mature, focused and determined than other guys of his age.

“He’s got a lot of the working ethic and determination of Michael Schumacher and this is something which has lasted throughout his career.”

Chelsea Kick Off F1 Sponsorship Deal

The European Champions League holders and Sauber launched the innovative partnership in April to cross-promote their brands in order to increase global awareness.

But the pioneering arrangement between arguably the world’s two flashiest sports will now move a significant step forward with a commercial sponsor for the first time putting its name to both entities.

Speaking here, Gourlay said: “The first commercial joint venture will be announced in two months’ time.

“You are going to see some results of the partnership very, very soon.

“It’ll give us the foundation and platform to build.”

“They are all into racing so if you are going to pick another sport, Formula One is the one,” he explained.

“Neither of us wants this to be a failure.

“We have not just jumped into it; we have entered into a long-term project.

“When we deliver one or two [joint] sponsors, other clubs will see why we did it.

“It’s wider than just commercial.

“We both want to be winners in our field and have the same values.

“Through our relationship with Sauber, we can go into 19 different markets in one season.

“It’s about reach and building our fan base on a global basis.”

F1 | HRT Up For Sale

HRT has taken the unusual step of confirming on its website that the team is up for sale and that negotiations are ongoing.

The statement said: “The current owners of HRT Formula 1 Team, TC II S.a.rl., would like to confirm that they are currently in talks with a number of groups interested in buying the team. HRT Formula 1 Team’s current management hopes to conclude the sale in the upcoming weeks and, with it, enable the team to continue progressing and become a reference in modern-day Formula 1 after the important achievements already accomplished in this 2012 season. HRT Formula 1 Team hopes to communicate the name of its new owner in the upcoming weeks.

“We believe the moment to let new investors come through for HRT Formula 1 Team has arrived. We’re very proud of the work done by the entire team and of the excellent sporting evolution achieved but the time has come for the team to continue growing with new financial backing. We’re convinced that the sporting potential of the team is huge and that the presence of new investors can give it a big boost.”

F1 | USA Finds A “fixed home” for GP

Mario Andretti believes F1 has found a “fixed home” for the United States GP.

Over the years Formula One has struggled to find a permanent home in America with the last US GP held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway from 2000 to 2007. The race, though, was dropped when the Indy organisers failed to reach a new agreement with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone.

Five years later Formula One is back in America, this time at the newly-constructed Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

And one man who is proud of the new track is Andretti, the 1978 F1 World Champion.

“When I saw the place in June I had my doubts about this ever going ahead,” the 72-year-old told The Observer.

“But I’ve been amazed at the work that has taken place since. There were big difficulties, because the whole project fell into different hands. But there was a passion and a resolve to perform miracles and make it work.

“And now this can be the fixed home of the US Grand Prix. And I think that fact will see the event not only surviving but thriving in the future.

“It’s a great host city and I think the track, borrowing a bit from Silverstone here, a little of Hockenheim there, will go down great with the drivers.”

As for plans to Formula One to race through the streets of New Jersey, a deal that has been postponed by at least a year from 2013 to 2014, Andretti said: “Can you imagine New York as the backdrop?

“It could be fantastic. But right now Austin is all we’re thinking about.”
