Andres Iniesta Appeals to save Albacete from extinction | Spanish Football

(Reuters) – Barcelona and Spain playmaker Andres Iniesta has written an open letter asking for people to invest money to help save his boyhood club Albacete from extinction.

Iniesta and his family are the third-tier club’s majority shareholders and he said they were doing everything they could to stop Albacete folding but needed more outside investment.

“Using this letter I would like to encourage everyone who has been connected with this club, former players, fans, companies and institutions to take part in the third phase of the capital increase so that we can safeguard our historic club,” he wrote.

“The country is going through a very difficult economic situation and we will only resolve this situation if all of us who can make an effort.”

Albacete, who have had a couple of stints in Spain’s top flight, are the latest club to suffer financially as the economic crisis gripping Spain dents revenue from ticket sales and sponsorship.

Messi & Agüero Kit Out Baby Thiago

Taking to his twitter account Agüero gleefully tweeted the picture of the pair holding the shirt, bearing the number of Thiago’s father.

Thiago has already been made a member of Messi’s boyhood team Newell’s Old Boys’ supporters club and has also been snapped in a Barça shirt.

Much is expected from the newborn because of who is father is, but having been born in Spain, Thiago is eligible to play for both Argentina and the country his dad plays football in for Barcelona.

After his birth had been announced it seemed Messi’s club and international teammates were already trying to suggest who the baby boy should represent.

Messi & Ronaldo | Life Link

The mystery of ‘869 days’ behind Ronaldo, Messi and sons revealed!

A bizarre coincidence involving two of the world’s greatest footballers, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and their sons, has been revealed by fans on Twitter.

While Ronaldo is 869 days older than Messi, astonishingly, Ronaldo’s son, Cristiano Ronaldo Junior, is also 869 days older than 25-year-old Messi’s lad, Thiago.

“Ronaldo and Lionel Messi were born 869 days apart, and their sons (CR Jr + Thiago) were also 869 days apart. How amazing is that?” The Sun quoted a Twitter user, as posting.

According to the paper, Messi’s girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo gave birth to their lad earlier this month while Ronaldo Junior arrived on June 17, 2010.

Ronaldo, 27, was born on February 5, 1985, while Messi was born on June 24, 1987, the paper said.

Liverpool Vs Swansea Tiki-Taka Style

Brendan Rodgers is facing his former side Swansea tonight Swansea in the latest round of the Capital One Cup and the reds Boss will deploying his Tiki-Taka football style hoping to overcome his former club after leaving the Liberty last summer. Liverpool are defending the trophy they won last February after beating Cardiff City on penalties.

The last time the clubs actually met proved to be Rodgers’ last game in charge of the Swans – ironically a 1-0 win over Liverpool at the Liberty.
Michael Laudrup’s side reached this stage after victories over Barnsley and Crawley Town, while Liverpool beat West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers:  “You have got two hats on really. The professional hat first and foremost says we want to get to through to the quarter-finals and nothing will get in the way of that.

Former Liverpool star Jamie Rednapp talked about Rodgers style shortly after Brendan was appointed as the Anfield boss and said ” He wants his teams to pass in all areas. He has used a system that has worked in Spain, especially for Barcelona —  principally the two centre halves split, the full backs push on and the holding midfielder steps in and plays from there. Everyone is encouraged to get on the ball, take risks, pass it, keep it. Liverpool will be playing the tiki-taka style.

He won’t change at Liverpool, but he will need time to implement his way of playing. The Liverpool crowd will be patient, because they love and understand their football and will quickly see what he is trying to achieve.

This squad should be excited about working with Brendan because he won’t waste a training session, where he will be working with the ball and teaching them how to break down other teams.

Liverpool have won the League Cup eight times – the most any club has won it.

So what is Tiki-Taka !

Tiki-taka is a style of play that has evolved from Total Football and is characterised by short passing and movement, working the ball through various channels, and maintaining possession. The style is primarily associated with La Liga club FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team under managers Luis Aragonés and Vicente del Bosque and also Pep Guardiola, ex-manager of FC Barcelona. Tiki-taka moves away from the traditional thinking of formations in football to a concept derived from zonal play.

Tiki-taka has been variously described as “a style of play based on making your way to the back of the net through short passing and movement,” a “short passing style in which the ball is worked carefully through various channels,” and a “nonsensical phrase that has come to mean short passing, patience and possession above all else.” The style involves roaming movement and positional interchange amongst midfielders, moving the ball in intricate patterns, and sharp, one or two-touch passing. Tiki-taka is “both defensive and offensive in equal measure” – the team is always in possession, so doesn’t need to switch between defending and attacking.

“We have the same idea as each other. Keep the ball, create movement around and off the ball, get in the spaces to cause danger”.

Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona using tiki-taka faced 52 different teams and managed wins against all of them except Chelsea, while Lionel Messi has not scored against Chelsea in eight UEFA Champions League matches (including a missed penalty spot kick in the second leg of the semi-final in 2012).

Messi Grabs Golden Boot

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has been presented with his second Golden Boot award in recognition for scoring the most goals in Europe’s domestic leagues last season.

The 25-year-old Messi scored a Spanish league record 50 goals for Barcelona, edging out fellow Spanish league star Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid by four goals.

Messi dedicated the award to his teammates, saying “it is a prize for scoring goals, but without my teammates I couldn’t have scored them.”

The Argentina international won his first Golden Boot in 2010 for his 34 goals that helped Barcelona win the league title.

Messi is among the favourites to win the 2012 Ballon d’Or for the world’s best player.

La Liga Clubs Linked to Lance Armstrong Doctor

In August  the USADA requested the 14 year records on Lance Armstrong to be erased due to the doping case against him. Its decision will be contained in a report that may also cause concern for the world of sport as a whole. The report is due to be sent to the International Cycling Union, the sport’s governing body later this week.

The report is likely to include witness names and specific allegations – that USADA said it had when it charged Armstrong with performance-enhancing drug use while winning the Tour every year from 1999-2005.

The detail of the report is likely to be complicated by other factors including individuals allegedly involved in the case.

The latest rumblings surrounding the report are coming from Spain and the medical centre where Dr Luis García Del Moral has been based. A report in today’s Telegraph claims that on the Medical centre’s website Del Moral had also been a “medical adviser” to Barcelona and Valencia football clubs.

Barcelona’s response to the claim was that records show the Doctor was  “never on the staff payroll”.

The Telegraph also report that

Del Moral’s list of clients appear on the Team360 section of the website of Performa SportConsulting, a centre offering a range of services.

Dr Del Moral is likely to come under more scrutiny when the USADA report is released. The USADA announced lifetime bans in June ”

The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) announced today that Dr. Luis Garcia del Moral (cycling team doctor), Dr. Michele Ferrari (cycling team consulting doctor) and Jose “Pepe” Martí (cycling team trainer) have all received lifetime periods of ineligibility as the result of their anti-doping rule violations in the United States Postal Service (USPS) Cycling Team Doping Conspiracy.

The bans will preclude all three men from having any involvement in sports which are signatories to the WADA code.

USADA cited “aggravating circumstances including involvement in multiple anti-doping rule violations as well as trafficking, administration and/or attempted administration of a prohibited substance or method” to justify the lifetime bans.
